I like you went to Ireland wanting an authentic non tourist Irish experience. Fallon's Capstan bar is what you are looking for. The minute I walked in I thought I was in a movie. Senior bartender Dave made me and my buddy feel right at home. Dave educated us on Irish whisky's and taught us a proper Guinness pour. This is a perfect locals/tourist mix bar. People actually talk to each other here. Go to the Temple bar district if you want to hang with tourists and pay double...go to the Capstan bar in the liberties if you want a pint and some craic.

Stopped in for a pint and soup for lunch and not only was the soup delicious, but the atmosphere and hosts were charming. Stopped in at the end of my day for another quick pint. Great place

Loved this place. One of the few really genuine looking small bars that we visited in Dublin (didn't try very hard mind). It's a single room with a small snug at the front which is just symbolically partitioned from the rest of the bar. It feels as if nothing has changed in here for years and don't know if that is intentional or just a lack of investment. Either way the result is great and we were the only tourists in here at lunchtime. The barman served us at the table and didn't take money until we left. The lad serving with him was doing lunch which was largely based on the saucepan of soup and toastie maker on the counter behind him. Men's toilet is straight out of the 1940s and the doorway is hilariously narrow. They really were a lot smaller in those days!

What do you want to know? The best pint of Guinness in Dublin, bar none - and still just €5. Ham and cheese sandwiches on the off chance, crisps if not. Small, quiet, but lively with conversation. A six seater snug, maybe you could cram a few more in. TVs turned on for an important match only, and only for the up to 90 minutes it may take. Historic building explained through the surrounding minutiae. Bartenders happy to chat if you like, happy to leave you if you don't. The perfect pub.
