Shanahan's on the Green

Ok I wanna start off by saying, coming here was a bit of a bucket list thing to do for me. Not because it’s expensive but because back when I was a teen it was a place where you would hear just the rich and famous dine in there. At the time there was no real American steak house in Dublin but now it’s flooded, with plenty of amazing ones too. And I’ve also heard that Shanahan’s has gone downhill, service and food not up to par. But I think it’s people expecting too much and building up expectations so I went in with a reserved head. Now we waited 15 mins before a waiter came and gave us bread for the table and take our order, the bread was Devine. Freshly baked onion and cheese loaf. I suppose the wait was a bit of a down side but we were there to relax, we had our bottle of wine from the bar and we were in no rush. My partner got the mussels to start, they came out sizzling with the sauce and half a lemon on the side. I got the oyster rockafella. Both were yum and both were a good sized portion. Now for the steaks. This is what was gonna make the night a disappointment or a memorable one. She got a 12oz fillet and I got myself a ribeye on the bone. With 3 huge sides. And the steaks didn’t disappoint. They were cooked absolutely perfectly. I like mine medium rare and my steak was charred on the outside and perfectly cooked through. My partners fillet was the same. She takes hers medium. Now I’ve tried my fair share of Dublin steak houses (Fx Buckley, asador, rustic stone) but to name a few, I’m not gonna say it was the best steak I’ve had in Dublin cause I’ve had amazing steaks and food elsewhere, but this was up there. It could well be the best I’ve had. I was glad I came, I would definitely come again and a nice touch was seeing Mr Shanahan himself going from table to table asking people how is everything. Wearing his nice suit and a pair of slippers. Brought that personal touch to the evening.
